GREENVILLE, S.C. ? The
Georgia Southern cross
country team finished in 12th place at the Furman Invitational on
Saturday, led by senior Abby Bloom's 39th place finish in Greenville, S.C.
With the 39th place finish, Bloom, the
Snellville, Ga.
native has now crossed the finish line first among all Eagles in every meet
this season. Bloom had an average mile time of 6:22 in the 5k race for a total
time of 19:46. She posted her second fastest overall time this season on
Saturday, with her fastest coming two weeks ago at the Auburn Invitational.
Junior Shauntel Jennings (Stone Mountain,
Ga.) was the second Georgia Southern runner to cross
the finish line placing 68th with a time of 20:27. Laura Fuller the
sophomore from Cartersville,
Ga. came in with a time of 21:22.
The field was consisted of 21 teams in the women's race,
with Charlotte
claiming the first place finish compiling a total score of 60. Stephanie Place
from Tennessee Tech was the first to cross the finish line with a time of
17:50, but she was unable to break the meet record set by Carrie Tollefson of
Villanova, who set the record in 1997 with a time of 16:29.
The Eagles are off for a week before heading to Cullowhee, N.C.
to face off in the Southern Conference Championships on Saturday, October 27.
