The Georgia Southern University men's and women's golf programs rank as perennial national powers thanks in part to the Bennett-Ramsey Golf Center, a 25-acre facility consisting of a team clubhouse, an indoor golf performance center, a dedicated practice putting green, a three-green short-game area, a two-tiered practice tee, a driving range and three practice holes.
Completed in the spring of 2018, the Carr-McCarty-Jopling Golf Performance Center, named in honor of the Carr, McCarty and Jopling families, Tom and Margaret Carr, John and Margaret McCarty, Kathy Jopling and David Jopling, allows for practice during inclement weather and houses two indoor hitting bays, a team meeting room, a short game performance center, made possible by Howard Lumber Hardware, a Director's office and the Rusty and Jennifer Strawn Men's Record Wall. The hitting bays feature state-of-the-art equipment, made possible by Leonard and Betty Blount, which measures motion through video technology quantifying the mechanics of a golf swing to provide detailed facts to guide and measure swing changes.
The new facility connects to the existing 6,000-square-foot Howard House, named in honor of Mr. Arthur Howard and his family, which is the heart of the men's and women's golf programs and contains a club repair area, computer and study areas for student-athletes and a championship entryway. It houses the Bo and Keely Fennell All-American Wall of Fame, Phil and Cindy Moore Men's Player's Lounge, Leonard and Sandra Bevill Men's Head Golf Coach and Women's Head Golf Coach Offices, John and Margaret McCarty Men's Locker Room, Chandler Roofing and Performance Insulation lockers, Mike and Deborah Cummings Men's Assistant Golf Coach Office, and "The Boss" Workout Facility, named in memory of John Cottrell.
Outside, the three practice holes are each designed to be played from multiple tee boxes to maximize the practice facility and allow many different yardages to be played. The first hole is a 390-yard, par 4; hole two is a 185-yard, par 3, and the final hole is a 330-yard, par 4. Each green on the practice holes has been designed to have at least three distinct target areas, allowing for up to three different pin locations and making the facility a nine-hole course.
The facility also includes the 3,000-square-foot Talmadge House which will house a superintendent’s office, as well as a classroom and a storage area.
