Georgia Southern University Athletics

Ben Powell serves as the Assistant Director of GATA Productions, a role he assumed after spending nearly a decade at Georgia Southern University as both a student and a full time staff member. He is responsible for executing at least 150 ESPN+ broadcasts a year, as well as creating content for broadcasts and social media.

Ben got his start as a Junior in 2015 working for the Multimedia Development Center (now known as GATA Productions) as a camera operator. After graduating from Georgia Southern in 2017 with a Multimedia Film and Production degree, he returned to the university and the “MDC” full time to serve as a mentor to other student employees, serving as the A/V Production Specialist from 2018-2021. During that time, he worked closely with both the athletic and academic departments to create compelling content for broadcasts and social media, earning three Southeast Regional Emmy nominations in the process.

He became a member of the Georgia Southern Athletics Department in September 2021 after the Multimedia Development Center was consolidated and rebranded to GATA Productions. He was officially named Assistant Director in the Fall of 2022.
