Josh Cooperwood begins his first season with Georgia Southern women's basketball as an assistant coach for the 2019-20 season.
Cooperwood comes to Statesboro from fellow Sun Belt Conference school UL Monroe, where he served as an assistant coach for the Warhawks for the 2018-19 season. He also has previous stops at Mississippi Valley State (2017-18) and at NC Central (2016-17).
A graduate of Tennessee State University and a former All-OVC standout for the Tigers, Cooperwood began his coaching career as a student assistant for the men's team. He transitioned over to the Tennessee State women's team as the director of basketball operations for three seasons, then was an assistant coach in his final season with the Tigers in 2015-16.
Cooperwood earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Tennessee State in 2003.
