Ellie Fruit begins her second season as a graduate assistant coach for the Georgia Southern women's basketball team in 2018-19.

The Eagles were 5-25 overall and 2-16 in the Sun Belt Conference in 2017-18, but improved greatly over the second half of the Sun Belt season, averaging more than five points per game and five percent better shooting from the floor over the final nine games of the league slate. GS took sixth-seeded Louisiana to triple overtime in the first round of the 2018 Sun Belt Tournament, falling 88-81 in the longest game for the Eagles since 1998.

Fruit joins the Eagles from Georgia College, where she played for two seasons for head coach Maurice Smith. She received her bachelor's degree in community health while seeing action in 39 games. A 2016-17 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) All-Academic Team selection, Fruit scored 124 career points and knocked down 33 three-pointers.

Prior to the Bobcats, Fruit played for two seasons at Wabash Valley College for head coach Zach Loll.

She is currently pursuing her master's in healthcare administration from Georgia Southern.
