Dexter Jenkins WBB 2024-25

Dexter Jenkins

Dexter Jenkins recently completed his second season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Georgia Southern women's basketball in 2024-25.

The Eagles compiled an overall 16-18 record in 2024-25, including a 6-12 mark in the Sun Belt Conference, but Georgia Southern ended the season winning 7 of its last 11 games. This included a pair of wins in the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Championships as the Eagles defeated Southern Miss, 70-59, in the first round and ULM, 75-69, in the second round. It was the first time that Georgia Southern had won multiple games in the Sun Belt Tournament and the first time winning multiple games in a conference tournament since 2005.

In his first season with the Eagles in 2023-24, Jenkins helped a Georgia Southern squad that set a new single-season record for blocked shots (159), reeled off a nine-game winning streak from Nov. 20 through Dec. 30 that was the longest for the Eagles since 2000-01 as well as coaching two-time All-Sun Belt Conference honoree Terren Ward to an amazing season in which the senior finished the year ranked 11th in NCAA Division I in scoring at 22.0 ppg.

Jenkins came to Statesboro from Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania, where he served as an assistant for the Red Flash for the 2022-23 season. With Saint Francis he worked directly with the wings and helped Semaya Turner to NEC All-Rookie team honors.

Prior to Saint Francis, Jenkins spent four seasons at NCAA Division II member Winston-Salem State as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. The best statistical season with Jenkins on staff at Winston-Salem State was in 2018-19, when the Rams finished 15-13 overall and 11-7 in CIAA play. During his stint, he worked directly with guards, developing the CIAA Freshman of the Year Amaya Tucker.
He spent the 2017-18 season in the same role at the University of Northwestern in Ohio. During his time with the Racers, he helped to guide the development of WHAC Freshman of the Year and second-team all-conference guard, Emily Patton.

He began his coaching career at NCAA Division I member North Carolina Central, where he worked up through the staff from graduate assistant to director of operations across a four-year period. He spent his final two seasons in the director of operations role, where he assisted with academics, campus recruiting, community service and all aspects of team travel. His first season in college athletics was in 2013-14.

Jenkins is a 2008 graduate of North Carolina Central University where he earned his bachelor's of science degree in business administration. He also earned his master’s in physical education from NCCU. He and his wife, Shaleema, are the parents of two children, a son, Dade, and a daughter, Shi.
