2013-14: Played in 10 games … Recorded season-best five tackles against Western Carolina … Added two solo tackles vs. Elon, Furman and Savannah State … Had three total tackles at Appalachian State and a quarterback hurry … Forced a fumble at Samford and credited with a pass breakup against Saint Francis (Pa.) … Had two pass breakups in Blue-White spring scrimmage.
HIGH SCHOOL: An all-state selection as a senior with two-time all-area and all-region honors to his name … Recorded 94 tackles with 14 pass breakups and an interception in his final season … Returned a punt for a touchdown … Had 91 tackles and 19 pass breakups with five interceptions as a junior … One of those PBUs was a critical effort as he broke up a potential game-winning pass vs. Newberry to help Wolverines advance in the playoffs … Registered 56 tackles with four interceptions and 10 PBUs as a sophomore … Won MVP honors at SCVarsity All-State Combine in 2012, recording best 40 time (4.39) and vertical jump (37 inches) at the camp … Spartanburg County champion in 100m dash with 10.5 best time in that event … Also competed in long jump with 21’6” measurement … Eagle teammate BJ Johnson played for Woodruff from 2008-11.
PERSONAL: Born Darius Darnell Jones Jr. on December 17, 1994 in Woodruff, SC … Son of Gloria Green and Darius Jones … Uncle, Derek Jones, now an assistant football coach at Duke, earned four letters as a cornerback at Ole Miss and played in the Canadian Football League … Relative Eric Young played collegiately at Tennessee and played in the NFL with the Cleveland Brown, the St. Louis Rams and the San Diego Chargers.
