Pair earns player of the week honors from conference
NEW ORLEANS - Georgia Southern football players Anthony Bynum and Tripp Bryant were honored by the Sun Belt Conference as players of the week, as announced Monday by the conference.
Â
Â
Offensive Player of the Week - Jaquari Lewis, App State
Jaquari Lewis rushed for a season-high 85 yards and a career-high four touchdowns to lead App State to a 35-32 win at Coastal Carolina on Friday evening. It was the most touchdown runs by a Mountaineer since Cam Peoples' school record-tying five in the 2020 Myrtle Beach Bowl, also in Brooks Stadium. Lewis added two catches for 22 yards. Lewis' four scores in the back-and-forth contest tied the game at 7-7, gave App State a 14-7 lead, pulled the Mountaineers to within three at 24-21, and regained the lead at 28-24.
Defensive Player of the Week - Anthony Bynum, Georgia Southern
Fourth-year outside linebacker Anthony Bynum led Georgia Southern to a 23-15 road conference win at Old Dominion Thursday night with eight tackles, including 3.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks, along with a forced fumble as the Eagles held ODU to just 65 yards rushing and 266 yards of total offense. He sealed the game late with a strip-sack fumble that was recovered by his teammate to stop a potential game-tying drive by the Monarchs. His defensive grade of 90.7 from PFF was the highest of any player from either team.
