Kayla Christensen Earns SBC Player of the Week

STATESBORO – Sophomore Kayla Christensen has been named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon, following her breakout performance at the Tiger Invitational.
Christensen powered the Eagles' offense against top-tier competition, batting .583 (7-for-12) across the weekend with five runs scored and three RBI. She recorded multiple hits and reached base in every game she played.
She opened the tournament with a statement performance against the No. 25 Clemson Tigers, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Christensen set the tone immediately, launching her first career home run on just the third pitch she saw to lead off the game.
She followed up with another dominant outing Sunday against the Wofford Terriers, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles and two RBI to cap the weekend.
Christensen's production at the top of the lineup sparked the Eagles throughout the invitational and played a key role in the team's success against nationally recognized competition. The weekly honor marks the first Player of the Week award of her career.
Georgia Southern returns to action this week as tournament play continues.
