Spartanburg, S.C. --- The Georgia Southern women's soccer team wrapped up their 2025 exhibition slate with a 2-0 victory over Wofford on Thursday evening (August 7th).
Both squads were deadlocked nearing the end of the first half, but it was
Hailey Esser who broke the scoring with some help from
Olivia Golden who played a nice ball to Esser past the Terriers' defense who slotted a shot in the upper right corner of the net. The second half saw Southern extend their lead with an
Addison Comer one-timer that sailed over the keeper and doubled the Eagles' lead, which is how the contest finished.
All three goalkeepers on the Southern roster saw 30 minutes each on the pitch, with all allowing the clean sheet with the help of their defense.Â
"I thought it was a total team effort," said coach
Chris Adams on the exhibition victory. "Everyone played tonight and the players off the bench were ready to go and maintained a high standard for us. Defensively, to not give up a goal and keep the clean sheet for the whole 90 minutes is fantastic. "They [Wofford] definitely made it difficult on us, but just a major credit to the team. They just stuck to the game plan and were eventually able to break them down. Overall, it was a great effort and having played two exhibitions we're ready now for what the regular season has to offer."
With both exhibitions behind them, the team begins regular season play at Bo Pitts Field with a contest against Samford on Thursday, August 14th. Kickoff against the Bulldogs is set for 6 PM in Statesboro.Â
