Eagles Battle No. 13 Arkansas On Sunday, Fall 2-0

Georgia Southern fares well in impromptu road trip to Fayetteville for first match against ranked foe since 2021

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - No. 13-ranked Arkansas women's soccer used a pair of first half goals to collect a 2-0 victory over visiting Georgia Southern on Sunday afternoon in Fayetteville.

The match, originally scheduled for Statesboro, was moved to Arkansas due to field conditions as more than five inches of rain was dumped on the Bulloch County area on Friday and Saturday. It is the first time the Eagles have faced a nationally-ranked team since playing at No. 25 Ole Miss on March 27, 2021.

Arkansas wasted little time getting on the board as a shot from outside of the box took a deflection off of a Georgia Southern defender and fell right to Erin Bailey inside the box, who finished just 46 seconds into the contest.

Just three minutes later, Bri Conley tested the Arkansas keeper with a shot in the fourth minute, but Keegan Smith was able to tally the save.

The Razorbacks doubled their lead late in the first half as Camila Palacios drove right inside the box and finished inside the far post for the 2-0 advantage.

Katie Oakley kept the score static, registering a career high-tying nine saves. The Eagles almost pulled one back late in the second half as Caitlin Conroy's shot in the 88th minute was cleared off the line by the Razorback defense.

"I thought that in the second half we settled in and maintained our energy, which was impressive," Georgia Southern head women's soccer coach Chris Adams said. "Especially with playing on Thursday and playing as well as we did in that match. I'm really proud of our group today. Our subs were ready to go, and they kept the intensity high. We couldn't quite find that goal after hitting them on the counter a couple of times, but I couldn't be more pleased with our togetherness and our communication against a nationally-ranked team on the road."

Arkansas finished the match with a 24-4 edge in shots and a 10-2 edge in corner kicks. The Razorbacks were whistled for 16 fouls and one offsides, compared to just six fouls on the Eagles.

Georgia Southern returns to action on Sunday, August 31, traveling to Wilmington, N.C., for a 1 p.m. contest against UNCW.
