Eagles Fall to JMU, 7-2, Friday Afternoon

Eagles wrap up series on Saturday

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Georgia Southern softball dropped game two of the series, 7-2, against James Madison on Friday afternoon at Bank of the James Field.  

Georgia Southern (28-24, 12-11) struggled offensively posting just three hits in the contest and recorded one hit with runners in scoring position. The Eagles are now 1-8 in the last nine games.

James Madison (25-24, 11-12) exploded for five runs on six hits in the bottom of the opening frame to take the lead as it was all it would need to secure the victory. The Dukes extended its lead back out to five in the second scoring a run on an RBI single before scoring again in the fifth making it 7-2. 

The Eagles offense tallied a pair of runs in the contest beginning in the second inning as Gracie Bellard punched one up the middle to score Delanie Thames. Madi Gillespie cut into the deficit in the fourth on an RBI sac fly. 

Maddie Johnson suffered the loss tossing just 1.2 innings surrendering six runs on seven hits. Bailey Holland entered in relief pitching 4.1 innings allowing one run on three hits. 

Thames, Bellard, and Payton Cushman each posted hits in the contest.
