Statesboro, Ga. --- The Georgia Southern baseball team (24-22. 10-12 SBC) fell to James Madison (14-32, 7-15 SBC) on Friday evening (May 2nd), by an 11-1 margin.
Despite two hits and a run from the Dukes in the top of the first inning, the offenses stayed relatively quiet through the first third of the contest. In the fourth, a two-run homer early in the frame would give JMU a 3-0 lead. However,
Brady Pendley would strand a runner on at third later on in the inning. In the fifth, the Dukes would burst for four hits and score as many runs to give them a 7-0 advantage going into the middle portions of the ball game.
Southern's lone run would come in the bottom of the sixth when
Luke Odden would slam a triple that burned the left fielder before
Josh Tate would pick up an RBI by grounding out to second. However, a three-run homer in the eighth and a security run in the ninth would slam the door on any chance for what the Eagles could muster, finishing with just three hits.Â
Southern would use three pitchers on the night, with Pendley going 4.2 innings.
Davis Smith would go 2.2 innings of work, only allowing a singular hit. Finally, to close out the game,
Landry Mead would allow just one run in his 1.2 innings on the rubber, all of which combining for seven strikeouts as a staff on the night.
The Eagles continue the series against the Dukes tomorrow, May 3rd, at 2 PM for BBQ at the Park Day at J.I. Clements Stadium.
