Southern fall to Marshall in Penultimate Game, 10-4

Huntington, W.V. --- The Georgia Southern baseball team (27-28, 13-16 SBC) fell to Marshall (3-0-24, 15-14 SBC) in the penultimate game of the 2025 regular season on Friday evening (May 16th).

Once again, the big inning were what heavily swayed the game in the way of Marshal when they quickly opened up their scoring to 6-0, all coming in the second inning. In the fourth, Southern would put up the same number of runs as the inning when JP Herrholz would get his Eagles back into it with a bases clearing double that burned the left fielder's head. After a passed ball during Jonathan Jaime's at-bat, he would score Herrholz with a simple ball in play to make it 6-4 after four.

The Herd would collect the rest of their runs in their fifth, as four more runs and three hits saw Marshall take their 10-4 lead, which would stay the rest of the contest. The final 3.1 innings of the ball game would see good performances on the mound by both Joey White and Thomas Burke, who each went 1.2 innings of work. They both did not allow a run across in their appearances, including Burke getting out of a bases-leaded jam by forcing a double play ball on the first batter he faced.

On the night, Herrholz would pace with his three RBIs, while Josh Tate secured his third straight multi-hit game with his two on the evening. With the result, the now know that they will finish from the seven to ten seed in the Sun Belt Tournament, meaning a game on Tuesday, with the time and opponent still yet to be determined.

The Eagles close out the regular season with their series finale tomorrow at 2 PM ET at Jack Cook Field on Saturday afternoon (May 17th).
