PREVIEW: Eagles To Host Coastal Carolina for Sun Belt Series

Eagles look to take fourth consecutive series

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern softball team is set to host Coastal Carolina at Beautiful Eagle Field in a three-game conference series beginning on Friday at 6 pm.

The Eagles will play the Chanticleers on Saturday at 3 pm before wrapping up play on Sunday at noon. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats are available at GSEagles.com/SBStats

ABOUT COASTAL CAROLINA
  • Coastal Carolina is 28-9 overall, 5-4 in Sun Belt play 
  • The Chanticleers have taken its last two of three series with series victories over Texas State and Louisiana. 
  • CCU dropped its midweek game to College of Charleston, 4-2, on Tuesday night
  • Georgia Hood leads the offense with a .453 batting average including 12 home runs, seven doubles, and 34 RBI. 
  • The pitching staff is led by Nicolette Picone who holds a 16-3 record including 128 innings pitched and 103 strikeouts to boast a 2.08 ERA. 
LAST TIME OUT 
In midweek action, the Eagles fell to Georgia Tech, 1-0, in Atlanta. Georgia Tech broke the scoreless tie in the sixth on an RBI single up the middle. The Eagles out-hit the Yellow Jackets 4-3 and left two runners stranded in scoring position in the third.

The 7-2 conference record marks Georgia Southern's best start to Sun Belt play since entering the league in 2015. 

IT STARTS IN THE CIRCLE
The pitching staff hold a cumulative 2.20 ERA which currently leads the Sun Belt and is the 15th best in the country. 

LOCKDOWN DEFENSE
Georgia Southern currently posts a .980 fielding percentage which is on pace for the best fielding percentage in program history. The mark is the top fielding percentage in the Sun Belt and ranks eighth nationally. The Eagles improved defensively last season putting a .967 fielding percentage for fifth-best in program history.

MAD(DI)E FOR THE MOMENT 
Ranks 18th in the country with a 1.50 ERA, 31st in innings pitched, and ties for 10th in shutouts.
