Monarchs Take Series From Eagles, 15-10

Statesboro, Ga. --- The Georgia Southern baseball team (21-15, 7-8 SBC) fell to Old Dominion (12-21, 7-8 SBC) by a 15-10 score on Sunday afternoon (April 13th).

Right out of the gate, Georgia Southern would explode for five runs in the first three innings, which included a two-RBI single in the second from Nico Senese as the lead was extended all the way to 5-0 after five innings. On the mound, Joey White was the exceptional bright spot for the Eagles on the afternoon. In his second start of the year, he would not allow a run and just four hits in his 4.1 innings of work. The senior captain would also strike out six Monarchs as well.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Monarchs would explode for five runs to tie up the ball game and included two home runs and an RBI-double. However, the Eagles themselves would respond in the bottom of the same inning as a sacrifice fly from Sean White would give the Eagles back the lead. Additionally, they would pad on four more runs in the seventh off of three hits, including a JP Herrholz two-RBI double, and two Monarch errors to make it 10-6 going into the eighth.

It was the eighth, however, where the Monarchs may have flipped their season around. They would use five walks issued by the Eagles, five hits, and one error to pounce for 10 runs; all of which coming with two outs on the board. Their ringing blow was a grand slam to cement their lead, that they held on to for good.

On the afternoon, 16 pitchers were used by both teams combined, including nine for Southern. Offensively, four Eagles in Josh Tate, Daniel Haab, White, and Herrholz, would all have multi-hit performances on the day. For White, he pushes his hitting streak to now double-digit games.

Next, Georgia Southern has their final home midweek of the season when Mercer comes into Statesboro for 912 Night. First pitch at J.I. is set for 6 PM.
