PREVIEW: Softball Hits the Road for Series at App State

Eagles travel north to Boone, NC

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern softball team will travel for its second conference series of the season against Appalachian State, starting on Friday, March 21 at noon.  

The Eagles will face the Mountaineers on Saturday, March 22 at noon before wrapping up play on Sunday at 11 a.m. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+. Live stats are available at GSEagles.com/SBStats 

Georgia Southern enters the series 18-12 overall, 2-1 in conference play, while App State is 9-18 overall, 0-3 in Sun Belt play. 
 
ABOUT THE APP STATE MOUNTAINEERS (9-18, 0-3 SBC) 
  • The Mountaineers open up its home schedule against the Eagles at its newly constructed Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium. 
  • App State was swept by Texas State last weekend in San Marcos, Texas 
  • The Mountaineers were outscored 21-10
  • Grace Barrett leads the offense batting .345 on the season including 30 hits, eight doubles, three home runs, and 18 RBI. 
  • Sophie Moshos leads the pitching staff with a 3.93 ERA in 17 appearances. Moshos has tossed a team leading 62.1 innings including 59 strikeouts.

  • The Eagles are 25-8 on the road against the Mountaineers 
  •  GS has won the last seven matchups, sweeping the last two series.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Eagles picked up a pair of wins, 6-0 and 8-2, over Charleston Southern in doubleheader midweek action on Wednesday. The Eagles outscored the Buccaneers 14-2 and out hit Charleston Southern 19-10. 
  • Emma Davis'  hot bat continued into midweek action going 3-for-5 against Charleston Southern with three runs scored and an RBI. 
  • Del Thames blasted two home runs, one in each game, to bring her team leading season total to six. 
  • Payton Cushman went 4-for-6 on the day with two runs batted and a pair of walks. 
  • Alana Barnard picked up her third victory of the season in as many starts on Wednesday against Charleston Southern. Barnard contributed to the shutout allowing just three hits in five innings of work and added a pair of strikeouts.

  • Madison Humber recorded the first hit of her collegiate career against Charleston Southern on Wednesday

  • Charla Clifton got the nod in the circle in game two against Charleston Southern for her first career start. 
  • Clifton picked up her first career win tossing a career high four innings allowing just two runs on four hits. 
  • The junior tied her career high with two strikeouts.
