TAMPA, Fla. –Georgia Southern softball fell to South Florida, 7-4, on Saturday night in the USF-Rawlings Invitational at USF Softball Stadium.
Georgia Southern struck first in the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead.
Madi Gillespie led off the inning with a hit by pitch before
Kayla Christensen singled up to the middle to put runners on first and second.
Brooke Kell drew an infield single to load the bases before
Emma Davis drove in the first run of the game on an RBI infield single.
The Eagles extended its lead in the fourth scoring two runs on one hit.
Brooke Kell led off the inning reaching on a throwing error and advanced to second before scoring on a second Bull error.
Valerie Combs recorded an RBI groundout to extend the Eagle lead 3-0.
The Bulls took the lead in the bottom of the fourth frame scoring five runs on five hits.
Georgia Southern came within one in the fifth inning after
Madi Gillespie singled through the right side, Kell reached on a throwing error to bring in the run to make it 5-4.
South Florida extended its lead back out on two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth.
Five Eagles recorded a hit a piece and Davis and Combs tallied RBIs.
Starting pitcher
Maddie Johnson tossed 3.1 innings allowing four runs on four hits and picked up two strikeouts.
Bailey Holland came in relief throwing 1.2 innings allowing one runs on four hits.
Charla Clifton tossed the final inning allowing two runs on one hit.
