Eagles Pick Up 5-2 Win Over Wofford On Saturday

Georgia Southern improves to 7-2 with the victory over the Terriers

STATESBORO - Georgia Southern women's tennis collected its second straight win with a 5-2 victory over Wofford on Saturday at the Wallis Tennis Center.

The Eagles (7-2) handed the Terriers (5-1) their first loss of the 2025 Spring season. It was the first meeting between the former SoCon rivals since 2023. Georgia Southern will continue its homestand at Wallis on Wednesday, hosting in-state rival Mercer for a 2 p.m. contest.

Georgia Southern earned the doubles point by taking a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles from Mackenzie Leopold and Lisen Rinman, as well as a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles from Juliette Nask and Nanaka Kijima.

The Eagles picked up two quick straight set singles wins to build a 3-0 lead. Amelie Rosadoro defeated Grace Agster, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5 singles, then Eifert downed Chloe Elliott, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 6 singles.

Wofford closed the gap with wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, bringing the match down to the top two singles spots. Juliette Nask clinched the victory with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 win over Brianna Wilbur at No. 2 singles, then Rinman finished off a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles for the final margin.

"We knew coming into this match that Wofford was going to be really good," Georgia Southern head women's tennis coach Sean McCaffrey said. "They simply don't give many free points away.  We had to work for a ton of points and the ladies did a great job of being steady and had a fantastic level of situational awareness...playing some key important points really well. I think in doubles we did a very nice job at 1 & 2.  Mac and Lisen have been so solid and have become such a strong doubles team.  It was great seeing them play with so much confidence even when things were not going their way.  They are relentless and getting better every day.
The real highlight was seeing Nana and Juliette play lights out in doubles.  It was their first time pairing up together and they did brilliantly.  We talk a lot about knowing where to be and what to do in doubles, and if you do the right things at the right time, it should not matter who your partner is.  You are always moving and covering areas that might need to be filled.  They did just that.  Jules and Nana were definitely on point today and really helped put us over the edge to get the doubles point.

"In singles I was really impressed with how Hannah rebounded after a tough doubles match and stepped up at #6," McCaffrey said. "She is such a dynamic player and today she was rock solid while she made things uncomfortable for her opponent. Amelie, also a freshman, did a great job of being sure to apply scoreboard pressure to Wofford by picking up a pretty convincing straight set win as well. Mac did a really good job of forcing a third set in her match.  The team needed that, and it was great seeing her lead the group and show her level of resilience, even playing against a very strong opponent. Juliette had chances to close out her match deep in the 2nd set but she got a little tentative.  But she was not going to let that happen again.  So in the 3rd set while she had her lead she was certain to close the door and pick up a really solid win to clinch!
All in all it was a great day to be an Eagle and the ladies showed why they are such a tough team.  They have this "next woman up" mentality which only brings the team closer together and I couldn't be prouder of them.
