TROY, Ala. - Junior Addison Comer converted a penalty kick in the 83rd minute to give Georgia Southern women's soccer a 1-1 draw with Troy on Sunday afternoon at the Troy Soccer Complex.
The Eagles moved to 2-8-4 overall and 0-3-3 in the Sun Belt with the tie, while Troy ends up 5-5-3 overall and 0-3-3 in the league with the result. Georgia Southern returns to action on Saturday, October 11, hosting Old Dominion in a 2 p.m. Sun Belt contest at Bo Pitts Field.
Neither team could find a goal in the first half as the Eagles had several chances, going into the break with a 14-6 edge in shots.
In the second half, Troy would take the lead in the 58th minute. A free kick from Elsa Stedman found a wide open Isabella Hartofelis in the box, and her header found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
The Eagles continued to generate chances, and finally got the opportunity to equalize in the 83rd minute. Bri Conley was fouled inside the box going for the ball, and Comer stepped up to the spot and beat Troy goalkeeper Taylor Richards for her fourth goal of the season and second in as many matches.
The match would end level at 1-1. Georgia Southern racked up 32 shots, compared to 15 for the Trojans. It's the most shots in a match for the Eagles since tallying 32 against Marshall on October 19, 2023. Junior Meredith Pugh tallied 11 shots individually, which ties the Georgia Southern school record set previously by Tara Chaisson against Georgia State on October 23, 1996.
Quinn Wilson made seven saves in net for the Eagles, while Richards wound up with 14 saves for the Trojans. The Eagles enjoyed an 8-2 edge in corner kicks, and Troy was whistled for 10 fouls, compared to nine for Georgia Southern.
"I thought our subs did a nice job breathing life into the game and getting us back to level in the second half," Georgia Southern head women's soccer coach Chris Adams said. "It was really just another day of creating chances, but not making our opponent pay. That has been our Achilles heel this whole season."
