STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team and head coach Lee Squires has announced its incoming 2024 signing class.
The 11 new Eagles are Matthew Dean, Julien Seher, Andy Sanchez, Joào Nuno, Noah Holstrom, Andreas Aakerso, Ryan Holmes, Harry Dale, Massimo Caruso, Brittain Gottlieb, and Joe O'Connor.
Matthew Dean
Attacking Midfielder, Woodstock, Georgia. River Ridge HS, NASA/Charleston Battery.
Squires Quote: "Matty is a very exciting attacking player and for me, one of the best players in the state in his age group. He can beat a man 1v1, score and create goals, works really hard and should be ready to impact from day one. He is gaining great experience with Charleston Battery currently, on an academy contract, having already made his pro debut in USL Championship."
Julien Seher
Defender, John's Creek, Georgia. John's Creek High School, NASA club team.
Squires Quote: "Julien is captain of strong John's Creek and NASA programs showing his leadership and maturity within his teams. He can play left or right back, has technical quality and a very good understanding of the game. We are excited to have him join our program.
Andy Sanchez
Midfielder, Marietta, Georgia. Osborne High School. NASA club team.
Squires Quote: "Another NASA product under the guidance of Coach Todd Gispert. Andy is very strong technically, with the vision to set up teammates and an eye for goal himself. He is also a leader within his teams and should transition well to the college game.
Joao Nuno
Defender, Funchal, Portugal. Maritimo.
Squires Quote: "Joao comes from a strong soccer background in Portugal, with 60+ games in the last two years at the highest youth level. Primarily a right back, but can also play higher up the pitch, he is a well balanced player offering work rate and intelligence defensively, with a strong technical level to match."
Noah Holmstrom
Defender/Midfielder, Aalborg, Denmark. Norresundby, FB.
Squires Quote: "I saw Noah with my own eyes at a showcase in Denmark and was really impressed. He has a range of passing that will help our build up play, reads the game well, and has a calmness and presence about him that will benefit our group. A top talent with a bright future.
Andreas Aakerso
Goalkeeper, Hilleroed, Denmark. FC Helsingor.
Squires Quote: "Andreas is a quality young keeper that will improve our goalkeeping department. He has all the attributes of a modern day keeper. Athletic, can make the big saves, communicates well, and his distribution is strong.
Ryan Holmes
Striker, Milton Keynes, England. MK Dons/SCAD
Squires Quote: "Ryan is former Wales youth international, and a proven goalscorer in NAIA, where he was an All-American and Conference player of the year as a freshman. At 6'3" he brings a presence about him that will upset opposition defenders, and will use his predatory instincts to add goals to our team."
Harry Dale
Midfielder, Repton, England. Lincoln City FC.
Squires Quote: "Harry is a quality box-to-box midfielder. His range of passing will help improve the way we play, and he is equally adept at carrying the ball with driving runs. He has ability from dead ball situations too, which is always a bonus!"
Massimo Caruso
Defender, Ontario, Canada. Vaughan SC.
Squires Quote: "Massimo is a very intelligent player. From left back he can go down the line and deliver crosses, or invert into midfield to get on the ball. He'll bring much needed left footed balance and another player that can deliver quality from set pieces."
Brittain Gottlieb
Defender, Savannah Georgia, Tormenta FC/FIU
Squires Quote: "Brittain is a strong athlete and defender, and a role model teammate in how he carries himself and works every day. He's had a great experience at a top program at FIU, and it's great to bring a local Tormenta FC product back home!"
Joe O'Connor
Midfielder, Plymouth, England. Exeter City FC.
Squires Quote: " Joe was the final piece of the puzzle in this recruiting class. He oozes class in possession and reads the game well out of possession. He's had a quality education at Exeter including being involved with the first team, and should have the necessary quality to improve us right away."
