STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team prepares to host the 22nd-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns for a three game Sun Belt Conference set, starting on Friday, May 10.
Georgia Southern is 27-21 overall and 15-9 in Sun Belt play, carrying a 7-game winning streak into the contest. Southern has swept its previous two SBC opponents in Marshall and ULM, scoring a total of 66 runs in those six games. This is the first 7-game win streak for the Eagles since the 2022 season. Louisiana enters with a 35-15 record, including an 18-6 mark in SBC play. Louisiana last took on Troy in conference play, falling in the first two games before salvaging the finale in extra innings.
The Cajuns hold sole possession of first place in the Sun Belt Conference with its 18-6 record. Georgia Southern is three game behind the Cajuns and tied for third in conference with Southern Miss at 15-9, but hold the tiebreaker over the Golden Eagles with its series victory over USM back in March.
Southern holds a 11-9 record overall against the Cajuns in a series dating back to 2015. The two never met until the Eagles joined the Sun Belt for the 2014-15 athletic year. Georgia Southern is 4-3 all-time against the Cajuns in Statesboro, but the two haven't met in the Peach State since 2018.
The Georgia Southern Athletics Marketing team will hold several fun events for the weekend, starting with the Vidalia Onions Fest on Friday evening, where fans can enter into an onion eating contest to win a Yeti cooler. Saturday's Local Heroes Day will allow all first responders, nurses, and and teachers to get into the game for free with valid work ID. Sunday will be the team's annual Senior Day, where we say thank you and good bye to 10 of our baseball players.
Both squads have only announced one starter for the weekend, as the Eagles will see RHP
Ben Johnson start for the second-straight Friday, while LHP Blake Marshall gets the start for the Cajuns. Neither side has announced Saturday or Sunday starters.
