STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern softball team travels to Appalachian State for its final Sun Belt conference series of the season beginning with a doubleheader on Thursday at Sywassink.Lloyd Family Stadium.
Due to forecasted inclement weather later in the weekend, the teams will play a doubleheader on Thursday with first pitch of game one scheduled for 2 p.m. before concluding the regular season with a single game on Friday at 3 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Georgia Southern swept the series against James Madison last weekend to move to 27-20 overall and 9-12 in conference play. The Eagles sit tied with ULM and Southern Miss in eighth place and one game behind Marshall. Game one saw the Eagles outlast the Dukes 4-3. GS used a four-run second inning and
Anslie Pettit picked up her 100 strikeout of her freshman campaign in the victory. The Eagles' offense exploded in game two, scoring six runs on five hits in the third inning as
Emma Davis and
Faith Barth combined for four hits and four runs batted in. James Madison took an early 2-0 lead in game three before the Eagles stormed back scoring four runs in the fifth.
Katie Perkins drove in the go ahead runs on an RBI double for the final score, 4-2. In the circle,

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
App State comes into the weekend with a 21-27 overall record and is 4-17 in Sun Belt Conference play after being swept last weekend at Marshall while picking up two midweek wins against ETSU. The Mountaineers collected 19 hits scoring 18 runs with solid pitching and hitting in the doubleheader wins over ETSU. App State was outscored by Marshall in the conference series last weekend, 31-14 ,over the three games as App State scored 12 runs in game three on Sunday. The Mountaineers' offense is led by Kayt Houston who posts a Sun Belt leading .439 batting average including 17 doubles, 11 home runs, and 37 runs batted in. In the circle, Sejal Neas leads the staff with a 3.69 ERA in a team-high 131.0 innings pitched including 110 strikeouts and 51 walks. The Mountaineers sit in 11th place in the conference in front of Georgia State.
