SAVANNAH - Former Georgia Southern men's golfer Steven Fisk made par on the first playoff hole Sunday to claim the 2024 Club Car Championship at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club and earn his first Korn Ferry Tour win. With friends and family, as well as the Eagle golf team and a strong group of Eagle Nation, cheering him on, Fisk made a two-putt par on the par-5 18th hole to defeat Rob Oppenheim in a sudden-death playoff.
"Such a long day that somehow went by really fast at the same time," Fisk said. "To get my first win right here in Savannah, so close to where I went to school, is kind of crazy. I haven't had much success here in the past, but to get it done today is extra special to be this close to what's kind of my adopted home."
Fisk birdied three of the final four holes of regulation and nearly won the event with a sand shot on the 18th hole that would have been for an eagle and the win. On the first playoff hole, Fisk found the fairway and Oppenheim hit a fairway bunker and had to lay up for his second shot. Both players went over the green on their next shot and chipped onto the green. Fisk two-putted for the par and Oppenheim missed his par putt to secure the win for Fisk.
Fisk was born in Atlanta and played college golf for the Eagles, where he was an All-American and finished second at the NCAA Championship. He and his wife, Edith, married last month in Augusta. Sunday evening, the 26-year-old Fisk earned his first Ferry Tour win in Savannah, roughly an hour's drive from the Statesboro campus.
"Definitely could feel the crowd on my side," Fisk said. "I had a great group of people following me all week, and for them to come out and continue to support me is so special."
"Steven is very deserving," said Eagle head coach
Carter Collins. "He's fought through a lot of adversity, and for him to get where he did today is a sign of who he is. He's used a lot of perseverance throughout his career and continued to use it today. Hopefully we added a little bit of energy to it, but he created all the excitement. It was a special day."
Two other former Eagles also played in the event and made the cut.
Mason Williams finished T-9th at -10 and earned a spot in next year's Club Car Championship, and
Ben Carr finished T-48th at -2.
