Eagles Outlast Dukes 4-3 on Friday Night

GS scored four runs in the second to secure the victory

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern softball team outlasted James Madison with a 4-3 victory over the Dukes on Friday night at Beautiful Eagle Field.

James Madison (29-17, 11-8 SBC) struck first in the topo of the second inning after a leadoff double, a RBI sacrifice fly from Madison Edwards put the Dukes up 1-0. 

Georgia Southern (25-20, 7-12 SBC) responded in the bottom half of the frame scoring four runs on two hits. Delanie Thames, Jess Mazur, and Dejah Mills drew three consecutive walks to load the bases before Kyla Maxwell drew a hit by pitch to even the score. 

Emma Davis gave the Eagles the lead on a RBI single up the middle before Katie Perkins extended the lead recording a two-RBI single making it 4-1 after two complete innings. 

James Madison cut into the deficit in the third and fifth with RBI singles to put the Dukes within one run. The Dukes threatened in the top half of the seventh with a runner on base but a pop up and strikeout ended the inning. 

Anslie Pettit picked up her 11th victory in the circle tossing 4.1 innings allowing three runs on six hits and recorded her 100th strikeout on the season. Morgan Kendrick earned the save tossing 2.2 scoreless innings and allowed just two hits. 

Emma Davis led the offense going 2-for-3 with an RBI and Katie Perkins went 1-for-3 with two runs batted in. 

Next Up
Georgia Southern looks to take the series against James Madison on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and is set to be broadcast on ESPN+. Seven seniors will be honored prior to first pitch.
