PREVIEW: Eagles Host Final Home Series Against James Madison

Senior Day festivities are Saturday

STATESBORO – The Georgia Southern softball team hosts its final home series against James Madison April 26-28 at Beautiful Eagle Field. First pitch of game one on Friday is set for 6 p.m. and the series will conclude on Sunday at noon. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Eagles (24-20, 6-12 SBC) picked up a midweek win in run-rule fashion over College of Charleston on Wednesday scoring a season-high 15 runs in the contest. Georgia Southern scattered seven hits on the afternoon and drew a season-high 11 walks to keep the offense going as every Eagle reached base. Delanie Thames and Jess Mazur led the offense going 2-for-3 and combined for four runs batted in. Thames scored a career-high three runs in the game. Faith Barth went 1-for-2 tying her career highwith four runs batted in. In the circle, Alana Barnard picked up the win to move to 6-4 on the season scattering seven hits on three runs and recorded two strikeouts. The Cougars runs came off the bat of Makala Belser who hit a three-run homer to put the Cougars on the board. 
 
SERIES HISTORY WITH JAMES MADISON
  • Friday's matchup marks the fifth meeting between the two programs.
  • James Madison leads the series 3-1.
  • Georgia Southern secured the first meeting between the programs in extra innings 5-3 on March 12, 2004. 
  • JMU has taken the last three meeting outscoring the Eagles 27-12. 
  • Georgia Southern will host the Dukes for the first time in program history.
SCOUTING THE JAMES MADISON DUKES
James Madison comes into the contest with a 29-16 overall record and is 11-7 in Sun Belt Conference play. The Dukes sit in fifth place tied with Troy and in front of Coastal Carolina. James Madison swept its conference series at Appalachian State last weekend outscoring the Mountaineers 23-8. The Dukes run ruled the Mountaineers in game one before a close game two on Saturday then swept the series in game three in the doubleheader on Saturday to take its third series on the season. The Dukes' offense is led by Reed Butler who enters the weekend batting .411 including eight homeruns and 31 runs batted in. KK Mathis follows Butler with a .365 batting average including 10 home runs and 38 runs batted in. A trio leads the staff in the circle with Alissa Humphrey Kirsten Fleet and Payton List. Humphrey leads the staff with a 2.34 ERA, Fleet leads the staff in innings pitched with 91.2 and Payton List joins posting a 5.19 ERA in 82.1 innings thrown. 

This weekend's promotion is Georgia Southern weekend at Beautiful Eagle Field. Friday is Spring Cleaning and the marketing team is cleaning out its closet for spring so come down for a change to grab some goodies. Saturday the Eagles will participate in Senior Day as seven seniors are set to be recognized on the field. Sunday is alumni day, so we are looking forward to seeing familiar faces back at Beautiful Eagle Field.
