Baseball Falls to JMU in Series Finale, 8-4

Five-game week starts Tuesday at home against Mercer

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Georgia Southern baseball team dropped a 8-4 decision to the James Madison Dukes on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field at Veteran's Memorial Park.

JMU (24-15, 10-8 SBC) took a quick 3-0 lead with three runs scored in the bottom of the first inning.

Georgia Southern (19-20, 9-9 SBC) cut into the lead in the top of the second inning with a home run from Sean White, but the Dukes responded with an unearned run in the bottom of the third.

In the top of the fourth, the long ball propelled the Eagles to tie the game, as Jarrett Brown's solo homer and JD Kaiser's two-run shot deadlocked the game at four-all after four frames.

JMU would take a one-run lead in the bottom of the fifth inning from a sacrifice fly, but put some distance between the two teams by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, including two solo homers.

The Eagles started to mount a rally in the top of the ninth inning with two runners on, but the Dukes shut down the threat to secure the series sweep.

T.R. Williams took his first victory of the season while Jacob Phillips fell to 2-3.
