Eagles and Owls meet for the final time this regular season
STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team prepares to take on the Kennesaw State Owls on Wednesday, April 17, at Stillwell Stadium up in Kennesaw, Ga. Action is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
Georgia Southern comes into the contest with a 19-17 record after recently dropping a conference series to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. While losing the first and last game, the Eagles powered through in the middle game to come away with a 10-3 victory, highlighted with a five-run bottom of the sixth inning. Kennesaw State comes in with a 20-14 record but is currently competing in Decatur, Ga., against Georgia State at the time of writing. Over the weekend, the Owls swept the Central Arkansas Bears to take down their ASUN opponent.
Georgia Southern and Kennesaw State have already met one this season, with the Eagles snapped a two-game losing skid to the Owls with a 7-4 victory at J.I. Clements Stadium. JP Herrholz's grand slam in the bottom of the third inning took the Eagles from a three-run deficit to a one-run lead. After the Owls tied the game up at four-all in the top of the fourth, the Eagles scored one run in each of the fifth, seventh, and eighth innings to pull away and secure the victory over the Owls.
Georgia Southern holds a 19-15 all-time record over the Owls. Last season the Owls swept the season series for the first time since the 2014 season, when KSU not only won the two regular season match-ups, but also took down the Eagles in the Tallahassee Regional to win its fifth-straight game against Southern dating back to 2013. The Eagles have not swept the Owls since the 2017 season.
Freshman right-hander Porter Buursema will make his third start for the Eagles on Wednesday, while the Owls are yet to name a starter.
