MOBILE, Ala. –The Georgia Southern softball team (21-17, 5-9 SBC) exploded for 12 hits and
Alana Barnard tossed a gem in the circle to roll past South Alabama (22-15, 8-6 SBC) on Saturday afternoon at Jaguar Field.
The Eagle offense exploded for 12 hits tying its team season high and eight Eagle batters recorded hits in the contest. Four Eagles led the charge each recording a multi-hit performance with two hits each.
Georgia Southern struck first in the third frame scoring four runs on four hits to go up 4-0.
Kyla Maxwell and
Emma Davis reached on back-to-back base hits before advancing on a sacrifice bunt off the bat of
Katie Perkins.
Faith Barth put the Eagles in front on a two-RBI double before
Janai Conklin launched a two-run homer to double the score, 4-0.
Katie Perkins extended the Eagles' lead in the fourth on an RBI single making 5-0.
Courtney Ball and
Kyla Maxwell reached on back-to-back bunt singles to put runners on first and second.
The Eagles added insurance in the seventh when Conklin recorded her third RBI of the game to score Barth who reached on her second base hit of the game. South Alabama plated three runs in the final frame but a groundout ended the threat for the final margin, 6-3.
Alana Barnard (5-3) shined once again in the circle tossing six complete innings allowing two runs on four hits. Barnard threw four hitless innings before allowing her first hit in the fifth and tossed six scoreless innings.
Davis, Barth, Conklin, and Maxwell recorded multi-hit performances. Maxwell's two hits marks her first multi-hit performance.

The Eagles look to take the series against South Alabama tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Jaguar Field. The game will be televised on ESPN+.
