STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team fell 7-3 to the 20th-ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Friday night at J.I. Clements Stadium.
The Chanticleers (23-10, 8-5 SBC) took to the board first with a Caden Bodine's bloop RBI-single to left field scored Sam Antonacci. However, the Eagles (18-16, 8-5 SBC) would scored two in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead, with
Jarrett Brown's two-RBI single to left center that scored
Josh Tate and
Sam Blancato.
In the bottom of the second inning,
Josh Tate reached on a bunt single back at the pitcher, but advanced to second on a throwing error, scoring
Cade Parker and bumping the lead up to 3-1.
The Chanticleers answered in the top of the third to cut the lead to 3-2, then took the lead with a two-RBI single in the top of the sixth. Coastal Carolina added three more runs in the top of the ninth to take the 7-3 lead, the eventual final.
Riley Eikhoff was marked with the win after 5.1 innings of work, finishing the night with three runs on seven hits.
Jacob Phillips was marked with the loss after giving up the leading runs in the sixth inning.
Josh Tate led the offense with a 3-for-5 night, scoring a run.
Sam Blancato was the only other Eagle with multiple hits, going 2-for-5.
