STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team is set to host the 20th-ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers for a three-game Sun Belt series, starting on Friday, April 12.
Georgia Southern is 18-15 overall with a 8-4 Sun Belt record, most recently falling to Georgia Tech on Tuesday. In the previous weekend's action, the Eagles swept Georgia State to pull ahead of the Panthers in the standings while also securing in-state bragging rights. Coastal Carolina is 22-10, most recently falling at Wake Forest in midweek action. Last weekend, the Chanticleers took two of three from Old Dominion in Conway, dropping the middle game but run-ruling the Monarchs in the final game to win the series.
The Eagles hold a 23-21 lead in the all-time series between the two programs, as well as a 9-9 regular season record since Coastal joined the Sun Belt in 2017. The two teams met in the 2019 Sun Belt Championship game, where the Chanticleers took a close 9-7 result from the Eagles.
In this series, the previous two Sun Belt schools to host an NCAA Regional will be facing off. The Eagles made history by hosting the program's first NCAA Regional in 2022, with a field that consisted of baseball powers such as Notre Dame, Texas Tech, and UNCG. Coastal Carolina hosted an NCAA Regional last season, hosting Duke, UNCW, and Rider.
This weekend is a huge weekend for marketing promotions, with several promotions happening all at the same time. Friday night is a litany of themes, including Celebrate Agriculture Day, Country Music Night, and welcoming Atlanta Braves organist Matthew Kaminski for his first night at J.I. Clements Stadium. Saturday will be "A Baseball Game Unlike Any Other," with a Masters-themed giveaway and live look-ins at the 2024 Masters. Sunday will not have a specific promo, but it will be the final day of Matthew Kaminski visiting Statesboro.
