The Georgia Southern women's golf team is set to compete at the Valspar Augusta Invitational March 9-10 at Forest Hills Golf Club for its third consecutive appearance at the tournament. Last season the Eagles finished 12th and Haley Yerxa shot 72-73=145 to tie for 14th place in a competitive field.
Due to inclement weather on Saturday, the teams are expected to play 36 holes on Friday and wrap up the final round on Sunday.
The Eagles are coming off a match play win against Augusta winning three of the five matches played. Regina Plascencia, Louise Reau, and Yerxa picked up victoires to secure the three-point needed to win. Reau and Yerxa led from the start in the matches winning 5&4 and 6&5, respectively. Plascencia took a 4&3 win after taking the lead on the fifth hole.
Abby Newton makes her 38th career start in the Eagle lineup, Plascencia makes her 7thstart this season, Alex Stevenson makes the Eagle lineup for the second time this season, Karlee Vardas makes her third start this season, and freshman Louise Reau makes her eighth career start.
