NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - The Georgia Southern baseball team fell 7-2 to the Georgia Bulldogs in neutral-site action on Tuesday night.
Georgia (11-1) took to the board in the top of the third inning when a wild pitch scored Tre Phelps, resulting in an early 1-0 lead.
Georgia Southern (4-8) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when Corey Dowdell's sac fly to left field scored Jarrett Brown, knotting the game at one-all.
From there, the game turned into a pitcher's duel, where neither side could plate a run. Southern's Joey White pitched four shutout innings in relief, setting Georgia Southern up with opportunities late.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Bulldogs began to pull away with RBI-singles from Sebastian Murillo and Paul Toetz before a grand slam by Slate Alford broke the game open, setting up UGA with a 7-1 lead going into the final three outs.
Georgia Southern scored one run from an RBI-groundout that scored Josh Tate before the game ended, but the Eagles could not bring in more runs to end that game at 7-2 in Georgia's favor.
Zach DeVito took his first win of the season while Davis Smith took his second loss of the year.
