Barnard Shines in 3-1 Victory over Coastal Carolina

Eagles look to take series tomorrow at noon

STATESBORO – Alana Barnard tossed her third complete game of the season as the Georgia Southern softball team (20-12, 4-4 SBC) evened the series with Coastal Carolina (19-15, 2-6 SBC) in a 3-1 victory.

Barnard earned the victory to move to 4-2 on the season picking up a career high seven strikeouts in the contest and allowed just one run scattering six hits. The complete game marked her sixth of her career.

Coastal Carolina scored its lone run in the opening frame after a leadoff hit by pitch, the Chanticleers used an RBI-double to score.

Georgia Southern responded in the second frame when pinch runner Emily Greek scored from second on a Chanticleer error to even the score. The Eagles would go on to plate a run in the third and fourth innings.

Janai Conklin led off the third inning with a solo shot to left field for the go ahead run making it 2-1. Faith Barth drove in the final run of the contest on an RBI-double scoring Emma Davis who led off the inning with a base hit for the final margin 3-1.

The Chanticleers looked to threaten in the sixth and seventh but a strikeout and fly out ended the innings.

Davis, Conklin, Barth, and Makayla Brantley recorded multi-hit performances as each recorded two hits.
