Southern Scribes: A Sitdown with Samantha Monaco

Get to know our ATs during Athletic Training Appreciation Month

STATESBORO - This month we are asking each member of our Georgia Southern athletic training staff to participate in a Q &A session for Athletic Training Appreciation Month. We will learn more about athletic training and more about the experiences of our athletic trainers and all the work they do for us behind the scenes!

Samantha Monaco is our next athletic trainer highlight! Samantha is an assistant athletic trainer working with our baseball team.

What is something about athletic training people often don't know?
"Days off for athletes are normally an athletic trainer's busiest days of the week. While this is a time for them to catch up on classes and schoolwork, for an injured athlete this day is crucial for them to improve physically."

What is your favorite part about being an athletic trainer?
"Building relationships with athletes and being a trusted source of support throughout their journey is incredibly gratifying. From physical to mental health, we are always looking for the red flags and making sure no one falls between the cracks. While this is a lot of weight on our shoulders it is amazing to see someone trust you fully to reach their full potential."

What is a treatment you like but don't get us as often/your favorite treatment?
"My favorite treatment is blood flow restriction."

What is your favorite thing about working with your sport(s)?
"My favorite thing about working with Georgia Southern baseball is the blue-collar mentality the athletes have. It is not about what you have but what you make of every day and every situation. This is the best staff and athletes in Division I baseball."
