STATESBORO - This month we are asking each member of our Georgia Southern athletic training staff to participate in a Q &A session for Athletic Training Appreciation Month. We will learn more about athletic training and more about the experiences of our athletic trainers and all the work they do for us behind the scenes!
Ashley Allenstein is our next athletic trainer up. She is an assistant athletic trainer working with the football program.
What is something about athletic training people often don't know?
"We wear a bunch of different hats. We have a wide range of skills that make us valuable and essential to the sports medicine team."
What is your favorite part about being an athletic trainer?
"Watching an athlete return to sport after an injury. I feel sometimes people don't realize how much we invest in these athletes and what we are doing to get them back to better than they were pre-injury. We want it just as bad as they do."
What is a treatment you like but don't get us as often/your favorite treatment?
"I don't feel that I have a favorite treatment, but I do enjoy cupping. Over the past few years rehab has been one of the more enjoyable things about being an athletic trainer."
What is your favorite thing about working with your sport(s)?
"Game Day. The atmosphere and rush of adrenaline I get from it is why I love working this sport. It keeps me on my toes and never leaves me bored. I also like working football because I feel that I see a lot more injuries and work with a vast variety of people. Being able to make an impact on at least one person and creating those relationships is my why."
