STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team fell 10-7 to the 21st-ranked Campbell Camels on Saturday afternoon at J.I. Clements Stadium.
Campbell (7-3) took to the board first with a lead-off home run from Grant Knipp to take the early 1-0 lead. Georgia Southern (4-6) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a two-RBI triple from
Jarrett Brown, which was the ninth triple of his career, moving him to sixth all-time in program history in triples.
Jonathan Jaime would score Brown on an RBI-single to make the lead 3-1 after the first frame.
An RBI-single from
Josh Tate and a run to home for Brown during a run down between first and second base extended the Eagles lead to 5-1 after three frames.
In the top of the fourth inning saw Andrew Schuldt home a home run to left center to cut the lead to 5-3. The Camels then took the lead in the sixth inning after a lead-off homer by Payton Howard followed by a two-run homer by Dalen Thompson. A sac fly by Chandler Riley put the Camels up 7-5 after six frames.
The top fo the seventh saw Lawson Harrill hit a solo homer for Campbell to extend the lead to 8-5, but the Eagles fought back in the bottom of the eighth inning with two runs scored from errors to drop the lead to a single run at 8-7. The Camels scored two in the top of the ninth to separate the squads and the Eagles could not score with two runners on in the bottom of the ninth, ending the game at 10-7 in favor of Campbell.
Zach Sabers was tagged with the win while
Davis Smith was tagged with the loss as he was the pitcher who saw the leading run score. Knipp took his second save of the season.
