Meet the Transfers: Bryce Bernard

Series takes a look at all of the new transfers joining the Eagles

STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern football program has announced its January enrollees which include 16 transfers. GSEagles.com had a chance to sit down with each of the transfers for a quick Q&A so all of Eagle Nation can get to know their new Eagles. Up next is Bryce Bernard, from USF.

NAME: Bryce Bernard

Fletcher HS • South Florida

What attracted you to Georgia Southern when you were making a decision to transfer?

Honestly, my dad played here and my mom went here, that's where they met. I grew up coming to some of the games. I fell in love with it when I came here as a kid. Also, the environment that Coach Helton has brought here, I really loved it.

What do you like to do when you're away from football?
Hangout, fish and golf.

What's your pregame ritual?
I listen to the same four songs every game. I'll hit a prayer before every game.

What do you prefer - a book, a movie or a video game?
A movie. I like to relax and watch movies. My favorite movie would be Remember the Titans.

What's the last show you binge-watched?
Yellowstone, a really good show.

If you weren't a football player, what sport would you go to college to play?
Baseball - I played baseball in high school and really loved it, but I was just always better at football.

After football is over, what are your current career aspirations?
I majored in mechanical engineering at USF. I am hoping to work in the automotive or aeronautic field as a mechanical engineer, designing aircrafts or cars.

What's something most people don't know about you?
I didn't start out as a football player, I went to USF be a student. I became a student filmer for the football team and then a player got hurt. I long snapped in high school and they told me I was on the team, they really didn't even ask. The joke is that the video coordinator, who I'm still close with, fired me and said you are joining the roster. He really didn't give me the opportunity to say if I wanted to do it or not. Here I am five years later and didn't know it would turn into this.

Finally, what aspect of gameday in Paulson Stadium are you looking forward to experiencing on Aug. 31 against Boise State?
The environment with the student section, running out of the tunnel, and watching Freedom fly.

Georgia Southern opens its 2024 season at home on Saturday, Aug. 31 against defending Mountain West champion Boise State as part of an exciting six-game home schedule at Allen E. Paulson Stadium. Ticket renewals are underway and information can be found at GSEagles.com/PowerOfPaulson.
