Eagles Drop Opener to Mississippi State, 5-1

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Georgia Southern baseball team fell 5-1 in a hard-fought series opener at Dudy Noble Field to the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Friday night.

Mississippi State (5-3) got on the board in the bottom of the second inning with a two-RBI single from Dylan Cupp, holding the 2-0 lead all the way until the seventh inning.

In the top of the seventh inning, Georgia Southern (1-4) would get on the board when Jonathan Jaime unleashed his first career home run to right field, halving the lead at 2-1.

The home half of the same frame would see Hunter Hines score from third on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Bulldogs would add two insurance runs from a David Mershon sac fly and a Dakota Jordan RBI-double, with the run scored from that being unearned.

Thomas Higgins was tagged with the loss after a 92-pitch performance. Nate Dohm earned his first victory of the season with the Bulldogs win.
