STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team fell 7-1 to the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday afternoon at J.I. Clements Stadium.
The Terrapins (2-0) scored the first three runs of the contest, breaking through in the top of the third inning with a two-run home run to left center field. An unearned run was added in the top of the fourth inning to bump the lead up to 3-0 UMD.
Georgia Southern (0-2) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when
Jarrett Brown's RBI-double down the left field line brought home
Sean Smith, cutting into the lead at 3-1.
Maryland would not score again until the top of the sixth inning with a bases-loaded walk, then again in the top of the eighth inning on a sacrifice bunt. In the top of the ninth inning, a solo homer and a sac fly would bring the lead up to 7-1, the eventual final.
Mitchell Gross was tabbed with the loss while Logan Koester earned the win in the contest.
