STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team fell in a tight affair, 5-4, to the Maryland Terrapins at J.I. Clements Stadium on Friday night.
Georgia Southern (0-1) scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when Daniel Haab was walked with the bases loaded, bringing Sean White home. Moments after that, a passed ball would score JD Kaiser, moving Jarrett Brown and Haab up to the next base.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Kaiser hit a sac fly to right field, bringing home Josh Tate and situating the Eagles with a 3-0 lead.
Mayland (1-0) got on the board in the top of the sixth inning with an RBI-single by Keister, scoring Hojnar, but the Eagles responded in the bottom of the sixth inning when Tate barreled a double down the left field line, bringing Luke Odden home to set up the 4-1 advantage.
The Terrapins scored two runs in the top of the seventh, then one run in the top of the eighth and ninth innings to take a 5-4 lead as the game went into the home half of the ninth inning.
