Baseball Drops Middle Game to Maryland, 7-1

STATESBORO - The Georgia Southern baseball team fell 7-1 to the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday afternoon at J.I. Clements Stadium.
The Terrapins (2-0) scored the first three runs of the contest, breaking through in the top of the third inning with a two-run home run to left center field. An unearned run was added in the top of the fourth inning to bump the lead up to 3-0 UMD.
Georgia Southern (0-2) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when Jarrett Brown's RBI-double down the left field line brought home Sean Smith, cutting into the lead at 3-1.
Maryland would not score again until the top of the sixth inning with a bases-loaded walk, then again in the top of the eighth inning on a sacrifice bunt. In the top of the ninth inning, a solo homer and a sac fly would bring the lead up to 7-1, the eventual final.
Mitchell Gross was tabbed with the loss while Logan Koester earned the win in the contest.

The Eagles will look to salvage the finale on Sunday afternoon. First pitch from LHP Ty Fisher is scheduled for 1 p.m. at J.I. Clements Stadium.
