Jones becomes second Eagle this offseason to earn ST invite
ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Los Angels Angels announced that left-handed pitcher Nick Jones will be one of 27 non-roster invitees for the Angels Spring Training this year in Tempe, Arizona.
Jones played for three teams in the Angels farm system in 2023, starting with the Tri-City Dust Devils in Single-A before moving up to the Rocket City Trash Pandas in AA in June. In September, Jones was assigned to the Sale Lake Bees, the AAA affiliate of the Angels, marking the highest affiliate Jones has played for in his minor league career.
In 2023, Jones held a 6-4 record with a 3.27 ERA during the season, appearing in 50 total games across the three teams. He recorded eight saves in eight opportunities and five holds on the season. He pitched a total of 66 innings with 77 strikeouts, only allowing a .213 opposing batting average and a 1.17 WHIP.
Jones was a stand-out closer for Georgia Southern during his college days, setting records during the 2021 campaign. Jones tied Paul Thorton's record in 1993 with 17 saves in a single season during that 2021 season, carrying a 1.48 ERA that same year. Jones finished his four years at Georgia Southern with a 2.28 ERA, the lowest ERA for a career in program history.
Jones is the second Eagle to be named a non-roster invitee for 2024 Spring Training. Hayden Harris was invited to the Atlanta Braves Spring Training as a non-roster invitee on February 2nd.
