Total Team Performance Leads Volleyball To Sweep Over Georgia State

Eagles held Panthers to .083 mark in sweep

STATESBORO – Georgia Southern volleyball moved back into the win column with a 3-0 sweep over in state conference foe Georgia State inside of Hanner Fieldhouse on Friday night.

"We talked about it all week, we wanted to respond after a tough weekend at Coastal." head coach Chad Willis said. "It's going to take a total team effort, everyone dialed in and really hone in on the little things. I thought our group did that tonight."

The Eagles opened up the first set taking a 3-0 lead on a Kirsten Barrett ace as it would never trail in the match. The squad got out to a commanding lead when Reagan Barth recorded her third kill of the set, making it 17-10. The Panthers closed the gap 21-20 but back-to-back kills by Barth stretched the lead back out as Jullian Gray closed the set with a kill.

The two teams battled early on in the second set but two consecutive attack errors by the Panthers forced a timeout with the Eagles leading, 7-4. Georgia Southern would stretch the lead to seven on a Paige Powers kill making it 17-10. Powers continued her dominance in the second set with back-to-back kills to end the frame, 25-15.

The third set saw Georgia Southern hold the Panthers to a .000 hitting percentage while offensively hitting .333. The Eagles stretched its lead to 11 in the final frame as the match ended on Lydia Seymour's fourth block of the game.

"We were completely locked in." Willis said. "Doing whatever it takes to get a win. Super proud of the effort."

Maggie Sale and Barth led the Eagles with nine kills apiece while Powers and Gray recorded eight kills each. Ashlyn Lovett notched 14 digs in the win adding to her season total. Kirsten Barrett totaled 24 assists and three service aces.
