Sarajian and Holmes Tabbed With Sun Belt All-Conference and Major Award Honors

New Orleans, La. --- The Sun Belt Conference announced their men's soccer major award winners and all-conference teams in which two Eagles saw their names among the best in Harvey Sarajian and Ryan Holmes

For Harvey Sarajian, he was announced as the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and First-Team All Conference, The freshman from Naples, Fla. put up incredible numbers during his first collegiate season and was a spark of energy and offense all season for the Eagles,who achieved their best start in program history and first postseason berth in four years in 2024. Sarajian was second on the team in goals, behind Holmes, with his four and not only led the team in assists, but was tied for third in the Sun Belt with his six dishes. 

Additionally, his 14 points in 2024 was the most by a freshman in program history and was tied for ninth in the Sun Belt with that mark. Sarajian had both a goal and assist in the same match twice this season, both against top opponents in College of Charleston and nationally-ranked West Virginia. He also has scored against North Florida and UCF and dished out assists against Stetson, Coastal Carolina, and James Madison. Sarajian has played in every match this season and started in all but one of them, totaling 976 on the pitch in the 2024 regular season. Finally, he was one of four Eagles to be a Sun Belt Player of the Week this season. Sarajian is also the first Eagle since 2020 to be named to the First-Team All Sun Belt and first to win Freshman of the Year since 2017.

For Ryan Holmes, he was named Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year and Second-Team All Conference. Holmes paced the offense for Georgia Southern this season and etched his name in the record books in just his first season as an Eagles. After transferring in from SCAD, Holmes led the team with his ten goals. He is tied for second in the Sun Belt with that mark and tied for 14th nationally. Other conference marks he posted in 2024 was tying for second in shots per game at 3.13, second in shots on goal at1.56 per match, tied for second in game-winning goals with three, and tied for fourth with his 22 points in 2024.

The sophomore from Milton Keynes, England is responsible for the most goals and points by an Eagle since 2018, and the second-most since 2011. His breakout performances came when Holmes scored five of his ten goals in a two-match span as in his third and fourth matches as an Eagle, Holmes scored a brace against Stetson and a hat trick against North Florida. The hat trick was the first in eight seasons and only the second since 1999. The astonishing performances earned him the obvious Sun Belt Player o the Week, and was even the first Georgia Southern player to be named National Player of the Week. Holmes also had a brace against Coastal Carolina as well as West Virginia and James Madison in back-to-back-to-back contests. 

Holmes is the first Eagle to win Newcomer of the Year since 2019 and is now tied for tenth in program history in season goals. The sophomore started in all 16 games for the Eagles and tallied 1184 minutes on the pitch, the most by any forward on the team, during his memorable 2024 campaign. 

The Eagles start their postseason journey with the Sun Belt quarterfinals match as the eight seed taking on top-seed West Virginia this upcoming Sunday, November 10th. Kickoff in Morgantown is set for 3 PM ET.
