Huntington, W. Va. --- The Georgia Southern men's soccer team fell to #4 Marshall 4-1 this past Wednesday evening (October 23rd).
Marshall shot off a flurry of attempts in the first few minutes of the match that tested, but did not break, the Georgia Southern defense. In the 15th minute, the Eagles had a throw in that sailed into the box where
Ryan Holmes took a touch to
Kevin Pierre, who capitalized to score his first goal of the season with a poking shot from just inside the box to put the Eagles up 1-0.Â
However, just 10 minutes later, a crossing pas into the box unfortunately bounced to hit an Eagle defender on the hand inside of the box and Marshall's Rai Pinto evened up the score with a penalty kick. The Herd were not done in the opening 45 as in the 35th minute, Marshall scored against off the leg of dos Santos to go into the half 2-1.Â
Georgia Southern were stopped offensively as Marshall went on to score twice more in the second half to set the final score at 4-1.On the match, the Herd took only 12 shots, but half of them were on target.. For the Eagles, they only had three shots, but two of them were on target. Marshall also continued to get to the corner kick spot often as they had eight attempts to Southern's two. Finally, for the second time this season, the Eagles did not have a single player pick up a card on the night.Â
Georgia Southern (5-4-4, 1-3-2 SBC) attempts to get back to their winning ways this upcoming Sunday, October 27th, against UCF back in Statesboro. Kickoff at Bo Pitts Field is set for 7 PM.Â
