STATESBORO - Georgia Southern swimming and diving is proud of our seniors for all they have done for Georgia Southern, both academically and athletically. These seniors have given their all for the program and will do it One More Time during the Sun Belt Conference Championships in February. GSEagles.com caught up with our eight seniors to ask them about themselves and their future plans, which Eagle Nation can learn more about below:
Name: Melody Giberson
Hometown: Peachtree Corners, Georgia
Major: Computer Science
Career Highlight: Competing at finals during the midseason!
Future Plans: Headed to school for another year to complete my computer science degree after switching degrees my sophomore year.
Name: Lilly Kasra
Hometown: Alpharetta, Georgia
Major: Master's in Health Policy and Management
Career Highlight: Competed at the NCAA B meet and swam the second-fasted time in school history in the 50 fly my sophomore year. An 8-time individual conference finalist.
Future Plans: Finishing my current Master's degree in Spring 2025 and go on to pursue a PhD in international health all while traveling to Europe to continue the development of my social marketing campaign for breastfeeding in Ireland.
Name: Hannah Merrill
Hometown: Rockwall, Texas
Major: Political Science
Career Highlight: Swimming the A-Final in the 200 Butterfly at Conference!
Future Plans: I plan to continue my work with nonprofits who advocate for sexual assault victims.
Name: Abby Schoppa
Hometown: Greensboro, North Carolina
Major: Exercise Science
Career Highlight: Competing at finals at conference!
Future Plans: Continue to pursue a career in coaching with a local team back home.
Name: Emma Scruggs
Hometown: Chattanooga, Tennessee
Major: Biology
Career Highlight: Being a two-time A-Finalist in the 200 back and 400 IM at conference, with 8 overall total individual final performances. Qualifying for the NCAA B meet in the 200 backstroke all three years of collegiate swimming and competing at the end of sophomore year.
Future Plans: I plan to attend medical school and pursue a career in medicine.
Name: Emma Sutton
Hometown: Calgary, Canada
Major: Marketing with an emphasis in fashion
Career Highlight: Competing in NCAA B meet at the end of sophomore season.
Future Plans: Graduating with a marketing degree and interning with Gulfstream to hopefully become a full time employee and continue my passion for marketing and advertising.
Name: Anya Weber
Hometown: Bloomington, Illinois
Major: Biology
Career Highlight: Making conference finals & zones on 1 meter freshman year, as well as being named CCSA diver of the week during sophomore year.
Future Plans: I plan to do a one year master's program in biomedical sciences or cell and molecular biology before applying to veterinary school.
Name: Austyn Woods
Hometown: Portal, Georgia
Major: Elementary & Special Education
Career Highlight: Swimming on the 200 free A-Relay at finals at conference freshman year.
Future Plans: I plan to become a Double Eagle & get my Masters here at Georgia Southern while teaching at a elementary school nearby.
