Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Hot-Shooting Georgia State Takes Down Men’s Basketball in Atlanta

Home team scored at a 59.4 percent rate in the game

ATLANTA– Georgia State took the lead early on in the first half and never trailed after that point as Georgia Southern men's basketball fell 90-62 in Atlanta on Saturday.

The Eagles (2-15, 2-3 Sun Belt) started the game with a 5-0 run, but that would be their largest lead of the night as the Panthers (9-7, 4-1) rolled for the remainder of the game.

The teams traded turnovers in the first few minutes before Tyren Moore nailed a jumper and Eren Banks sunk a three to make it 5-0. Avantae Parker's dunk made it 7-3, the first of back-to-back slams for the freshman.

A 19-6 run during the middle of the half was enough to keep GS at bay for the remainder of the half. Moore's contested lay-in at the end of the frame made it a 42-32 deficit heading into the locker room.

Moore converted an and-one opportunity to cut the lead to seven points, however, the Panthers wouldn't let it get any closer. The Eagles fell into a drought and GSU extended its lead to as much as 32 before the game ended.

Derrick Harris Jr. had five points in the final minute as the Eagles fell 90-62.

The Panthers shot a blistering 59.4 percent in the game, the highest against Georgia Southern this season, while the Eagles mustered a 34.3 percent mark from the field.

Moore continued his solid scoring stretch with a team-high 19 points, while Banks again joined him in double figures with 11. Parker had nine points and four rebounds, while David Jones' six rebounds tied a season high.

GS returns home for a matchup with Coastal Carolina on Thursday.
