CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The Georgia Southern men's tennis team opened up the 2024 Spring season on Friday evening, falling to the University of Miami by a 5-0 score in Coral Gables.

In the first matchup between the two schools since 2020, the Hurricanes (1-0) took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, then swept four singles matches in straight sets from the Eagles (0-1) to clinch the match.

Pol del Castillo and Dimitris Paliouras dropped a 6-2 decision to Vladislav Melnic and Antonio Prat at No. 1 doubles, while Judson Blair and Aaron James Williams fell to Adrien Burdet and Martin Katz, 6-3, at No. 2 doubles. The Eagles' No. 3 doubles duo of Pierre Mouesca and Matthew Mitchell held a 5-4 lead when the doubles point was clinched.

In singles, the Hurricanes picked up straight set wins at No, 1, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Dimitris Paliouras collected his first set at No. 2 singles from Martin Katz, and Pierre Mouesca notched the first set of his match at No. 3 singles.

"Congrats to Miami on the win tonight," Georgia Southern head men's tennis coach Andrew Goodwin said. "Tomorrow cannot come soon enough for us. We are ready to put it on the line, to continue to develop into the toughest team that we can be."

Georgia Southern returns to action on Saturday, playing FAU in Boca Raton in a 5 p.m. match.
