BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Zachary Martin's late goal against UAB was the equalizer in Birmingham, setting the stage for a 1-1 draw between the Georgia Southern men's soccer team and UAB on Tuesday night in Birmingham.
The Blazers (0-4-4) came out as the aggressor in the match, shooting the ball eight times in the first 45 minutes to the Eagles (1-3-5) three shots.
Nate Martinez, the reigning Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week, added two saves to his total in the first half, but neither side how much doing in the first half of play.
The Blazers were able to take an early second half lead with a shot off of a deflection by Martinez in the 55th minute, but the Eagles would respond 20 minutes later when Martin was able to score when the Blazers goalkeeper bobbled a save, letting the Eagles tie up the match. Both sides played aggressively in the final 10 minutes, but neither side could push ahead, leaving the match in a 1-1 draw.
Eagles came out aggressive in the second half of play with eight shots, totaling 11 on the night, while the Blazers ended with 16 after another eight shot half. Martinez ended the night with five more saved, extending his season total to 27 saves on 93 shots faced.
